How To Learn A New Language

Monday, February 8th, 2010

ever thought about studying a language?  I’m aware that I have on a few occasions.  Lately I was beginning to plot a trip to China and I seriously considered learning the Chinese language.  The same thing occurred 1 or 2 years gone when I was thinking about going to France for six months.  However , that trip fell through and I stayed home instead.

Research has gotten so way easier nowadays thanks to the web.  I just type into Google what I want and back come the answers.  Recently I started searching for a good learn a language course so I could begin to learn Chinese.  After reading various reviews and feedback from other students, I am seriously considering the Rocket Chinese course.

Rocket have many language courses and they all appear to be highly rated.  I liked the Rocket Chinese review and also the Rocket German review.  I am in possession of a secret need to visit Germany one day also.  It would be great to be able to get around like a local speaking and understanding the language.

Being a shy sort of person, I wish to learn at my own pace from home.  These courses are great for that purpose.  Also, they teach me the conversational skills of the language which I know will give me more confidence when I visit the country.  I also attempt to watch films in the language I am learning to help buttress what the lessons have taught me.

I plan to buy Rocket Chinese tomorrow as I need to visit China in half a year.  After I have realized that, I will most probably learn German next.  I can’t wait to learn a new language and then put it into practice with the locals.

The Brave New World of Web 2.0

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Having been a traditional bricks and mortar business owner for the past 20 years or so I’m quickly realizing that this Web 2.0 stuff is radically changing the landscape of how business is done worldwide. It used to that finding customers was just a matter of making some cold calls, passing out a few business cards and maybe writing an ad for your local newspaper. But with some much competition out there now these so called old marketing methods just aren’t cutting it any more.

At first I was a little hesitate to jump into the whole internet Web 2.0 thing, I’ve never been the techie type but have always been intrigued by the internet and the infinite possibilities of how this tool could be used to market a business. So being the slow starter that I’ve always been I decided to take the plunge and educate myself for a couple of months to see what types of results that could gained by using this new marketing medium. And boy was I surprised after about six months or so of testing by way of a blog, several videos and submitting a couple of niche articles to some of the top article directories.

Well it’s been close to a year now and even though I wouldn’t consider myself a guru or anything like that I have become quite proficient in two maybe three areas of Web 2.0 marketing. It’s a brave new world out here now folks and my advice to any of you traditional old timers out there is don’t be afraid to give the internet a shot. It’s becoming extremely easier and easier to take advantage of what Web 2.0 and the internet has to offer, so do yourself a favor and don’t get left behind. This is Kevin Thomas hope you enjoyed reading this article.

5 Easy Weight Loss Tips

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Weight loss doesn’t have to be difficult and depressing. In fact, it should be motivational and rewarding. Here are five great tips to help ensure your experience when losing weight is a positive one.

1. Go ahead, indulge yourself! It’s just not reasonable to think you’ll be able to stick to a lifestyle of deprivation. Every now and again it’s fine to splurge and have something you really like. The trick is portion control: instead of having a three scoop monster ice cream cone, get a child’s size.

2. Eat breakfast. When your sleeping your body actually kicks into a kind of “fasting mode.” You “break the fast” when you eat breakfast (thus the name). In fact, if you can eat breakfast within an hour of getting out of bed, you may actually boost your metabolism and burn calories better throughout the day.

3. Try something new. When trying to lose weight, it’s easy to fall into a rut of eating the same foods all the time because you know they’re “safe.” But there are thousands of varieties out there that are healthy and tasty. Read the labels and try something new in the way of ethnic or exotic foods.

4. Talk to yourself. No, it doesn’t mean you’re crazy! Positive “self-talk” really does help lift your spirits and keep you motivated.

5. Take your vitamins. A good multi-vitamin will ensure your nutritional needs are being met. This is especially important if you’re on a diet plan that restricts certain kinds of foods.

The best way to lose weight is through exercise. I know because I lost 45 lbs in six months — and kept it off!

How Long Does It Take To Learn Spanish?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I am often asked, “how long does it take to learn Spanish?” I’m afraid this is largely a million-dollar question and one for which there is no single response.

Unfortunately there are simply too many variables concerned, in that so much depends on how much effort a person is prepared to put into learning the language, and also which strategy or program they are going to be using. Add to that the fact that while some people may opt to use the services of a personal tutor, others will choose a classroom environment instead. In fact, some scholars will rather select using one or other home study program which gets use from books, multimedia, software, and audio recordings. You also have to ask yourself whether or not the student will be learning the language in a place where it’s spoken as the native language, or whether they will be learning it in their home country. Similarly, the standard of a program or the experience of a teacher will also influence the outcome.

Because these variables will have such a direct result on how long does it take to learn Spanish, it is simply not possible to provide a simple response to this query. In reality, I have personally met individuals who after six months, managed to communicate confidently in conversational Spanish, but also , I’ve known folks who have studied the Spanish language for a period of years, admittedly on an on and off basis, and yet after many years they can barely get by.

Rather than attempting to provide a generic response to this question, I would prefer to respond with what I feel to be the fastest way of learning Spanish. The most important step of all, is for a student to take advantage of each available opportunity with regards to interacting in the language they want to learn, irrespective of what language that might be.

While you actually do get those who are firm believers in the classroom approach, I feel it takes too long unless it is done in conjunction with another method. In my viewpoint, a self study system of top quality is by far superior in that it permits a student to move forward at their own speed rather than being tied down to the average lecture room pace. This is especially true regarding persons who are really intent on learning a language.

In this case, I’d suggest a student to go for a credible program which includes a selection of audio lessons, multimedia lessons, and naturally, written Spanish. In addition, they should choose a program which allows for lessons to be downloaded onto a mobile device so that they can listen on their iPod for instance. Remember, if you’re serious about learning a language, then you should aim at being able to not only speak it and write it, but also to read it and understand it. Unless a program covers all 4 of these areas, it should be avoided or at least, you may require some additional material.

As you most likely have already heard, Rocket Spanish is an intensely favored program, and not without reason. Considering that it addresses all four of the area’s discussed, it has gained a reputation for providing students with a first[ class foundation for basic Spanish which in turn will make sure that you are able to communicate confidently in Spanish inside a comparatively short space of time. Similarly, Rosetta Stone is considered to be just as good, in that it also addresses the 4 areas mentioned above. Furthermore, it is available in two versions so that people can select between the “Spain” version and the Latin American Spanish version. Judging from testimonials, it would appear that the Rosetta Stone program takes slightly longer to work through, which of course means it’ll take you a little longer before you develop conversational Spanish but generally, it ranks right up there with Rocket Spanish. Also, Rosetta Stone is quite a bit costlier.

As you can see, there are too many variables involved for me or anyone else to be in a position to give a single answer with regards to “how long does it takes to learn Spanish. However, you have potentially also gathered by this time that there are several things you can do in order to hurry up the method. In reality, many students go as far as using both the programs mentioned together with each other to develop conversational abilities as rapidly as possible. However, unless you are steadily exposed to the Spanish language, no program will be capable of making you one hundred percent smooth. On the other hand, providing you’re at an intermediate-to-advanced level, you might consider subscribing to Puerta del Sol Audio magazine which is a Spanish language abilities Magazine. Furthermore, you’d be surprised at how much you can benefit from joining a Meetup group in your neighborhood that is focused on learning the Spanish language.

Top 3 Reasons to Be Careful With Modern Diets

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Many modern diets promise great results, and some of them deliver quite well on those promises. However, there are three important things you need to be aware of before beginning any diet program in order to ensure healthy weight loss. They are:

1. If the diet omits certain foods, you may fall short of your nutritional requirements. An example of this is the Atkins diet, which is big on protein and veggies but low on carbs and fruit. If you’re active on a diet such as this, you need to be sure to take a good multivitamin to help make up where the diet is falling short. The best multivitamins are whole food vitamins, which can be found at your local health store.

2. Be careful not to cut back your calorie intake too fast. Cutting the amount of food you’re used to eating each day too quickly can leave you tired and lightheaded. It’s much better to scale back slowly. Besides, you won’t feel as hungry if you take it a little bit at a time.

3. Always consult your doctor before starting a diet plan. It may sound contradictory, but you need to be relatively healthy before starting a major weight loss program. Be sure to get a checkup from your physician first, and get his or her opinion on the diet program you’re planning on following.

Dieting doesn’t have to be difficult, but you want to make sure that you lose weight in a natural, healthy way. With many of today’s modern weight loss programs, the emphasis is on speed rather than health. Be careful and plan ahead if you want to lose weight the right way.
